What is Neurofeedback? Neurofeedback is like behavioral modification for the brain. When you receive positive feedback you continue your behavior to receive more positive feedback. The brain operates the same way. The symptoms of many neurological disorders such as ADD, anxiety, depression, and more can usually be treated using Neurofeedback. By measuring brain activity and providing feedback the brain can be trained and the symptoms reduced or eliminated altogether. During a Neurofeedback session a client sits in front of a simple computer game with small sensors attached to the head. The sensors measure brain activity in specific areas of the brain and when these areas are functioning properly the game runs and the client receives auditory feedback. When the brain is not functioning at the desired levels the game slows and the auditory feedback is quieted. In this fashion, the brain learns to perform at desired levels. With repetition, the change becomes permanent. How long does it take? Most clients begin to experience some relief immediately upon beginning treatment. Each client is unique. Some clients have responded extremely well and completed treatment in as few as 20 sessions. Others with more complicated issues have required additional sessions. |
