Common Disorders
Consider the analogy of a car engine with all cylinders firing at exactly the right time. The car has plenty of power. However, if one cylinder fires too fast or too slow, the whole engine is affected and the car may limp along with the other cylinders trying to compensate. Like the car engine, people with ADD, anxiety, depression, learning disabilities and other disorders have regions of their brains that are operating too slow or too fast. As a result, the rest of the brain is forced to limp along, compensating the best it can. The following are brief synopses of how Neurofeedback can address some common disabilities: ADD/ADHD The brain of someone suffering from ADD is operating too slowly in the areas responsible for paying attention and organization, causing the ADD brain to try to wake itself up by seeking exciting distractions. Neurofeedback can dramatically reduce all of the symptoms of ADD. Anxiety/Panic Attacks Clients suffering symptoms of anxiety and panic have too much “hyper-alert” or fast wave activity. Neurofeedback trains the brain to calm itself and reduce the “fight or flight” response, leaving clients calm, relaxed and “in control”. Depression Depression is characterized by excessive slow wave activity in the brain. Depression is very easily treated with Neurofeedback, resulting in increased motivation, interest, and excitement for life. Learning Disabilities Many learning disorders are characterized by too much slow wave activity that hampers the brain. Neurofeedback can usually help reduce the symptoms of learning disorders by speeding up regions with slow-wave activity. |
